Health & Safety - Deb Bakker

On-Line Training

On February 11th, 2009, I attended a Health & Safety class set up by Jim Erickson with the new Health & Safety officer, Gary Collins, also in attendance. The employer has a new initiative to educate workers as to the safety methods to be practiced in a job they have never done. The content seemed well put together and insightful.

A topic of discussion was the ITS computer based training modules being given to workers in conjunction with the workers RTW (Return to Work) program. Affected workers will be required to take a 30 minute on-line training module. The employer plans to have the worker complete 2-3 modules per day, either at the workers own installation or at the SMPP with cab fare paid by the employer.

It is important to mention that this should in no way affect a workers RTW program. Although the program is presented by the Corporation and endorsed by the Worker’s Compensation Board it does NOT supersede any program arranged through a doctor or therapist: as per the direction from Jim Erickson and confirmed by Reg Wilson.

Your local Health & Safety committee will have all the necessary information should you wish to inquire further.
